Another two games – again just a
few notes.

Arranged to meet “Mr. Mac” at the
ground for this noon kick off – it’s a good job we were a few minutes early as
this actually turned into a morning kick-off as play commenced at 11:55am.
Basford beat Main 7-0 at their
ground last week, with Cardill Lubban netting four times. On this occasion the
striker had to take a back seat as he only managed a brace whilst Callum Smith
emulated his four goal feat. It was Lubban who netted the
first in the 5th minute, with Smith notching 15 minutes later.

The goal of the game, and maybe
of the season came with 6 minutes of the second half played. Smith collected
the ball 10 yards inside his own half and ran straight through the midfield
before shrugging off a challenge and firing home from 15 yards. Superb solo
effort from a player who looks destined to go far.
Two minutes later, Smith became
creator as his well placed free-kick was headed powerfully home at the far post
by Robbie McNicholas. Smith completed
his personal treble from the spot on 65, then as Basford eased off a little,
Main began to up their game a little and in the 73rd minute their no.9
raced onto a through ball and fired it home to make it 6-1.

Smith wasn’t finished yet though
– adding the home teams seventh, and his fourth, with seven to play. Remel
White added the Basford eighth on 88, rounding off a superb performance from
the United youngsters. F-T 8-1
Last weeks first team squad
against Rugby Town contained McNicholas, Smith and Lubban. With the facilities
at Greenwich Avenue improving all the time, the academy is certainly an area
where all involved at the club can give themselves a pat on the back – the
future of the club is, it seems, being solidified in the classrooms.

As AFC Mansfield’s match day
secretary Peter Craggs was unable to attend – missing his first Bulls game
ever, or so I was informed, Rob Waite (the66pow) stepped in to do the
secretarial work. I was also informed
that manager Rudy Funk had been handed another two years contract at the club.

Pete Chappell, and after a stale first 45 minutes, we were left wondering if we
were going to notch up a dreaded goal-less game. H-T 0-0
Ollie Fearon put those fears to
rest on 54, rising salmon-like to nod home from in front of goal. 15 minutes later Fearon double the Bulls’
lead after he smashed the ball past keeper Jody Barford from just inside the penalty
area. When James Cullingworth added a third for the Bulls on 77, the game was
effectively over, and the final whistle couldn’t arrive quickly enough. F-T 3-0
